General Questions

How do I know when my lighter needs refilling?

You'll know your lighter needs refilling when it starts to produce a weaker flame or no flame at all despite being sparked. If you notice the flame height decreasing over time or if the lighter requires multiple attempts to ignite, it's likely running low on fuel. Additionally, some of our MK lighters have a fuel level window, allowing you to visually check the remaining fuel. If you're unsure, it's always safe to refill your lighter if you've been using it regularly and haven't refilled it in a while.

What types of fuel are suitable for my MK lighter?

Our MK lighter, which is typically a butane lighter, you should use high-quality, refined butane fuel. We recommend using the high-quality NEON brand butane. Using high-quality butane ensures the fuel is free from impurities that could clog the lighter's fuel system and affect its performance.

Are refillable lighters more environmentally friendly than disposable ones?

Yes. Refillable lighters are more environmentally friendly than disposable ones because they generate less waste, reduce plastic pollution, and have a lower overall carbon footprint due to their long-term use and reduced need for manufacturing and disposal.

How to replace the flint of your MK lighters?

Replacing the flint of our lighter is easy. Just follow the following steps:

  1. Lift up the pusher to pop up the flint cartridge.
  2. Pull out the flint cartridge.
  3. Remove the flint spring on the bottom of the flint cartridge.
  4. Insert replacement flint and spring into flint cartridge until you hear clicks.
  5. Insert the flint cartridge back into the lighter until you hear clicks.

Can I use any brand of lighter fluid for my MK lighters?

Yes. You should use high-quality, triple- or quadruple-refined butane fuel. You may purchase the butane from local supermarkets or retailers. Stores like Walmart, Home Depot, etc typically have a good selection of butane. Using high-quality butane ensures the fuel is free from impurities that could clog the lighter's fuel system and affect its performance. That's why we highly recommend using the high-quality NEON brand butane.

Maintenance and Troubleshoot

What should I do if my MK lighter won't ignite?

If your MK lighter won't ignite, try the following steps:

  1. Check the Fuel Level: Ensure the lighter has enough butane fuel. If it's low or empty, refill it according to the instructions.
  2. Adjust the Flame Height: Sometimes the flame setting might be too low to ignite. Adjust the flame height control, usually located at the side of the lighter, and attempt to light it again.
  3. Purge Air: Air trapped in the fuel tank can prevent ignition. To purge, turn the lighter upside down, press the refill valve with a small screwdriver or a similar tool to release any trapped air, and then refill with butane.
  4. Clean the Burner: Residue or debris in the burner area can block gas flow. Gently clean around the burner with a soft brush or compressed air.
  5. Check the Spark: Ensure the ignition mechanism is producing a spark. If not, the flint or electronic igniter may need replacement. Check this to see how to replace the flint of MK lighters.
  6. Let it Rest: If the lighter has been used extensively or refilled recently, let it sit for a few minutes. This allows the butane to reach room temperature and stabilize.
  7. Check your altitude: Butane lighters may struggle to function properly at higher altitudes due to decreased air pressure and lower temperatures. Generally, when the altitude reaches about 1,500 meters (approximately 4,900 feet) or higher, butane lighters may start to experience ignition difficulties. This is because as altitude increases, the air pressure drops, leading to a decrease in the vapor pressure of butane, making it harder for butane to vaporize from liquid to gas, thus affecting the lighter's ability to ignite. The impact becomes more pronounced with further increases in altitude.

If after these steps your MK lighter still doesn't ignite, please contact us with your order number, especially if it's damaged or excessively worn.

How often should the flint be replaced?

The flint is durable material. The frequency of flint replacement in a lighter depends on usage, but typically, it might be replaced after every few thousand strikes. Signs that it's time to replace the flint include difficulty in sparking, a noticeable shortening of the flint, or the lighter not igniting consistently despite having enough fuel. Regular inspection and maintenance will help you determine the right time for replacement.

Can I repair my MK lighter if it's damaged, or should it be replaced?

Whether you can repair your MK lighter or need to replace it depends on the extent of the damage and the specific model of the lighter. Minor issues like a spent flint, low fuel, or clogged burner can often be fixed at home. However, more significant damage, especially to the lighter's internal mechanism or structure, cease using it immediately to ensure safety.
